Product Auctions - Can Get Tricky

Recently I was observing an auction on BidCactus. I went to the site because I saw an advertisement showing iPad sold for $25 or so. I was curious to see what is going on. After reading their FAQ and watching the bid process, I realized that the amount of money that site makes from sale of each product can be upto 3 or 4 times the actual price of that item. And some time in heat of the moment, the person who won the auction can end up paying more than the actual cost of the product.

The site is charging $0.75 for each bid you place and bif increment is $0.01. So if a product is sold for $25, that means there were 2500 bids placed. That translates to $1875 worth of fee that all users paid for that auction. So if a person won iPad for $25, you can imagine what kind of money the site paid. And the user who actually bought that iPad placed close to 75 bids. Well, you can calculate how much that iPad cost to that winner. Obviously the answer is not $25.
